WSC 98th Annual Meeting to focus on two major events

The 98th Annual Meeting, Luncheon and Seminar of the World Service Council will take place Thursday, Oct. 25 at the Colony Club in NYC. Members, their guests and friends of the WSC are cordially invited to attend. Headlining the event will be YWCA USA CEO Alejandra Castlllo who will be providing exciting information about the USA’s 160th anniversary celebration, and World YWCA Deputy Secretary Casey Harden who will speak about the 2019 World Council meeting to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa. Attending with Casey will be World YWCA Intern Jade Brady from Australia. The World Service Council each year provides substantial funding for the internship program so hearing about her role will be of particular interest.

The afternoon session which continues after lunch from about 2 to 4 p.m. will feature a new program which we are calling “Partners of the World Service Council and the World YWCA.” Mary Luke, chair of the Metro Committee of UN Women in New York, will fill us in on the Committee’s major efforts and goals for this year and Michaela Walsh, who started Women’s World Banking, will bring us up to date on their activities and the work of other organizations in which she is active.

In addition, attendees will be updated on UN priorities and the implementation of the UN Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) internationally and in the US via the Cities for CEDAW initiative.
