SUMMARY:World Service Council Centennial Celebration
DESCRIPTION:The YWCA World Service Council of YWCA USA will celebrate a century of service in a special virtual presentation Thursday\, October 15 at 5 p.m. EDT. The program will document the Council’s extraordinary history on the world stage from the aftermath of World War I and II to present day and will feature women who have played prominent roles in the World Service Council and World YWCA. More details will be forthcoming including how to access this milestone event. \nIn its impressive financial role for the World YWCA\, the World Service Council has been instrumental in supporting global young women’s leadership through decades of the World YWCA’s internship program and has contributed to capacity building of World YWCA trainings and brick and mortar projects. \nMembers of the World Service Council are women with a global vision who care about our changing world and champion the work of the YWCA in its commitment to dignity\, freedom\, justice and peace. The October meeting will be a great way for the entire YWCA movement to learn more about the Council’s mission and impact on ensuring women and girls’ have equal opportunities and a voice in all issues affecting their lives.

DESCRIPTION:From the 17th to the 22nd of November 2019\, delegates and observers from YWCAs worldwide are gathering in Johannesburg\, South Africa for the meeting of its highest decision and policy-making body\, the YWCA World Council. \nThis landmark event\, 29th since its establishment in 1855\, will regenerate the worldwide YWCA movement\, strengthen its impact at community\, national and global levels\, in order to transform lives\, leaving no one behind. \nWorld YWCA Council is an intergenerational and unique opportunity that brings together 300- 500 young women and women from more than 100 countries every four years to engage in a democratic decision-making process\, setting the strategic priorities for an unstoppable movement. Altogether\, YWCAs around the globe work to achieve gender equality for millions of women\, young women and girls through the oldest and largest intersectional feminist movement on the planet. \nThe last World Council had the theme of Bold and Transformative Leadership – Towards 2035. It was hosted by the YWCA of Thailand on 11-16 October 2015 in Bangkok. In total\, 477 Member Associations from 73 countries attended the event\, and before Council opened\, a two-day Young Women’s Forum was held. \nWorld Council is the governing body and legislative authority of the World YWCA\, where representatives from member associations elect the World YWCA Board and determine policies and priorities for the next four years. \nAt World Council you will meet your YWCA sisters from around the globe\, exchange ideas\, participate in workshops and hear top notch keynote speakers. SUMMARY:World Service Council Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The YWCA World Service Council is breaking with tradition by holding its 99th annual meeting Friday\, June 7 at 2.45 p.m. in conjunction with the YWCA USA’s Conference in Washington\, DC.  Our guest speaker will be former World YWCA General Secretary Musimbi Kanyaro who served for 10 years as the leader of the global movement. \nWe are happy to be engaging with our YWCA USA sisterhood at this conference to hear from a variety of speakers on relevant topics and receive updates on initiatives stateside and around the globe. \nMany of you might be interested in attending the whole conference that runs June 5-8\, but\, if time is an issue\, we hope to see you all June 7 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel for our annual meeting.
